Home office

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I transformed one of our bedrooms into a home office over Christmas break. This room has been essentially empty from the day we moved in. I had been dying to do something with it. A few months ago, I decided I wanted an office for all things Hello Mrs. Hubbard. I am the kind of person that gets an idea in my head and has to go for it right away. This being one of them.

I just graduated with my Masters and had some giftcards to spend, so this was the perfect time to go for it! I had been pinning ideas for a home office for quite awhile, so I knew the exact look I was going for. One of those looks consisted of wallpaper. This seemed like quite the risk, but I had seen a lot of success instagram. One of which is my old drill team coach, Bethany Crisp at Crisp Collective. After watching her how to, I knew it was something I could handle (or hoped!).

Most of my house is modern with a lot of gray and dark colors throughout. I knew I wanted this room to be different. I wanted it to be bright and airy with a lot of bright whites and hints of mauve. When I found this chair on Amazon I knew this was going to be the perfect mauve piece for what I had in mind. Not to mention, the price is unbeatable! I wanted one more statement piece to accent the chair, so I bought this beautiful gold mirror from At Home. It is seriously my favorite.

Now that I had the main pieces, I knew I wanted the rest of the furniture to be white. I’ve wanted Alex Drawers from Ikea since I became a teacher. I knew they had to be part of my desk. I added the Linnmon Table top and legs. To keep my desk clean and organized I also purchased a shelving unit to store my Silhouette and printer.

Now that I had what I needed, it was time to focus on the walls. The mirror and some shelves would do, but the wall my desk was going on had to have something special. I have experimented with wallpaper before, but never on a big area. This was my chance to try it. I was nervous because once you get started, there’s no turning back. Like I said before, when I get an idea and I run with it. The day I decided to do this, my husband was at work. That wasn’t going to stop me! However, I will say doing it by yourself is pretty hard. Had he been there, I think it would have been easier. The first roll was the hardest. Lining up the paper where the two walls meet was almost impossible. In fact, I don’t think my walls are completely straight, so it isn’t perfect. But, it’s nothing a fiddle leaf tree can’t hide. Once I got the first piece put on the wall the others were a piece of cake. I used an exacto knife to cut it perfectly, and a smoothing brush to get out any air pockets. I chose Target’s Divine Wallpaper and it went perfect with the gold mirror. Honestly, Targets wallpaper is not something to sleep on. The prices are great and the application is rather easy once you get started. I am already planning the next wall to do.

The gold pieces made picking the decor even easier. However, I had to do it in one shopping spree because there are a lot of gold tones out there. I wanted them to be in the same family so the room flowed. I started at HomeGoods and picked up a Rae Dunn clock and some frames to go with it. I then headed to Hobby Lobby and picked up a pen holder gold ball.

At this point I realized I needed some art and decided to go back to Target. We’ve all gone to Target twice in one day, right? Hearth and Hand had an adorable piece of art that went perfectly with another abstract piece. They both had hints of mauve and I thought they would compliment the chair perfectly. Lastly, I grabbed this lamp to sit on my desk.

As I pieced this room together, I kept wondering what the heck did I do? I just spent all of my graduation money on this space.. what if I hate it? Once it was completed, I really fell in love. It is the perfect space for Hello Mrs. Hubbard. I could do all things teacher related here, while also working on my blog and writing more. I immediately feel a sense of motivation when I sit in here and push myself to be creative more often. Gone are the days of school papers all over the couch and living room floor. Hello, home office.
